Southall’s Red Lion car park set for development
It seems a week doesn’t go by without another site in Southall being earmarked for development or regeneration. This week, the private car park behind the Red Lion pub on Southall’s High Street (opposite North Road) has been designated as the site for a new residential project consisting of 150 units across three blocks ranging from 4 to 14 storeys.
The project will be delivered by PMB Holdings, a development company with greater experience in commercial developments rather than residential projects. While commercial projects tend to be larger in scope and require more money, manpower and regulation; developers will have to adapt to other issues, such as the impact to nearby residents.
With this in mind, PMB Holdings have taken a step in the right direction by hosting a public meeting on Sunday at Fairlawn Hall, Southall, to share their plans for the site with local residents. It will also give residents a chance to share their concerns about yet another large-scale development project in a town suffering from chronic infrastructure problems, poor air-quality exacerbated by construction sites and a lack of affordable housing.
PMB Holdings have already pledged that the development will include locally affordable homes and they are ready to consult and listen to the concerns of residents throughout the process. We hope so.
